What I’ve Learnt As A Prefect

July 9th, 2014

As you may have guessed from the title, I’m a prefect from Penang Chinese Girls’ High School. To be honest, being a prefect isn’t an easy task. However, I have learnt a lot of things. And now I’m going to share all I’ve learnt with you.

First and foremost, be responsible. This is one of the most crucial things I learnt being a prefect. As a prefect, I have to shoulder responsibilities, especially in carrying out my my duties like taking the attendance of fellow students and doing other paper works. I also learnt how one simple mistake I make can cause a lot of troubles and affect the work of other prefects. That’s the main reason I now double check my work.

Secondly, manage time wisely. Time management is an important skill that all prefects need to master. Besides school work, we have duties and all sorts of paper work to handle. Some may even be involved in competitions. Therefore, all prefects need to use their time wisely to get good academic results and also perform well in other fields.

Thirdly, communicating with others effectively. Prefects need to converse with different students and teachers while carrying out their duties. When talking, we need to ensure that our voices, our gestures and the words we use are appropriate so that people won’t think we are rude. I was also taught to adapt quickly to different situations.

Lastly, making new friends. Making friends is also a skill that is needed to be learnt. When I first became a probationary prefect, almost everyone is a total stranger to me. But now, the relationship between my form mates and I  are very close. We’ve been through a lot together, which resulted in me becoming friends with people who are as different from me as chalk and cheese.

Being a prefect definitely impacts my life greatly. It was not an easy decision, but I’m glad and grateful that I have chosen the right path.

To be frank, be a prefect isn’t an easy decision. But i know that everyone of us never regret for doing this decision.
